I should like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted at the recent General Election. It is a great privilege to be your MP, and I promise to do my utmost to look after your interests and represent your views in parliament and in the constituency.
The new coalition government will have to take hard decisions to bring down Labour’s deficit. This is not a task the Government relishes. It is part of Labour’s legacy. It will reduce the deficit in a way that delivers fairness and to protect those who need it most.
My top priority remains the hospital. I have had meetings with various people to discuss ways in which services might be returned to Wycombe. One of the first people I met was Anne Eden, the Bucks Hospital NHS Trust Chief Executive, to put my concerns directly to her. I know local people value the services the hospital provides and I will do everything I can to ensure people get the best possible healthcare locally.
I have also taken action to speak to individuals and groups about other local issues. These include briefings on the proposed high-speed rail link, discussions with council representatives on planning and housing, and a meeting with the local police superintendent to discuss crime in the area. I have also undertaken to help many local people at my constituency advice bureaux, with problems ranging from schooling, to hospital treatment and wind turbines. I would be pleased to help you with any problem you might have – please ring the constituency office on 01494 521777 if you would like an appointment to meet me or, email me at steve.baker.mp@parliament.uk Also, I would be delighted to come to any charity or community activity you have planned in the area – if I am free, I will be pleased to support you.
